About

Realpolitik is recorded weekly on Wednesdays, all being well, by Gavin Whenman and Richard Holloway. Gavin (who blogs at Gavin’s Gaily Gigest) is a Liberal Democrat, which means he doesn’t really believe in anything and will say whatever you want to get elected, and Richard (who blogs at the imaginatively named Richard Holloway) is a Conservative, which means he likes to eat babies and hates poor people.

Why “Realpolitik podcast”?

“Realpolitik” is defined as “a system of politics or principles based on practical rather than moral or ideological considerations” (OUP) and, whilst it can have pejorative connotations (especially at an international level), we like the idea of a government that will implement policies for practical reasons, rather than because its “base” or core voters will like them or because they appeal to their own prejudices.

The “podcast” bit is hopefully self-explanatory, if not wholly satisfactory.
